“Erika is an amazing massage therapist and an incredible person. She is a person you feel better around simply by being in her presence. I've been a physiotherapist for 13 years and have received many treatments over the years from all different types of practitioners. Erika's intuitive and very effective treatment style, combined with her kind and compassionate nature, is what makes her our go-to massage therapist”

FAQs

Do I need a doctor’s referral to get a massage?

No, a doctor's referral is not necessary to see a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) in BC. However, some insurance companies may require a referral for additional coverage after a certain number of visits.

Does my insurance cover the cost of massage?

Many extended health plans cover massage therapy performed by an RMT. Please check your insurance portal to know how many RMT massages are available to you each year. We provide direct billing to most insurers.

What should I expect from my first massage therapy visit?

Your first visit will include filling out a health history form online, followed by an in person discussion and assessment by your RMT. The therapist will exit the room, you will then disrobe to your comfort level in the privacy of the treatment room. The RMT will return and perform the treatment. After the session, the RMT will provide home care advice to assist with your wellness goals.

Do I need to remove my clothing to have a massage?

Yes, we suggest disrobing to your comfort level. This usually means undressing down to your underwear and laying down under the drape of the sheet and blanket. During the massage you will be covered by the sheet and the RMT will undrape only the area they are working on. However, your comfort is key, so we can always work through and around clothing, if that better suits your needs.

Do I need to be injured or have a health condition to get a massage?

No, you are always welcome to come for a massage. While massage therapy is beneficial for injury rehabilitation, it is also helpful for general maintenance and preventive health. Massage therapy is also helpful for overall well being, stress relief and nervous system regulation.

What kind of ailments can massage therapy treat?

Massage therapy can assist with stress relief, headaches, muscle spasms, strains, arthritis, tendinitis, repetitive strain injury, back pain, pregnancy discomfort, circulatory and respiratory issues, and post-injury and concussion rehabilitation.

Am I expected to talk during my massage therapy appointment?

What matters most is that you are comfortable. If you enjoy chatting to your RMT, we are happy to engage. However, please do not feel pressured to continue conversation through a treatment. A quiet environment, where the body can focus on breathing is often the best for full relaxation.
